AOL.com Mail Login.

Sign up for and log in to your new AOL email account. Common login problems and solutions.

About AOL Mail.

AOL Mail is a webmail service created by AOL, which is now owned by Verizon Communications. It was launched in 1993 and is recognised as one of the oldest email services still in existence. The service is sometimes referred to as AIM Mail, with the ‘AIM’ initials standing for AOL Instant Messenger; a now discontinued messenger service.

Users are able to create a webmail account with AOL Mail for free and the service includes built-in virus protection and spam protection, as well as support for the POP3, SMTP, IMAP protocols. The vast majority of AOL Mail email addresses have the [username]@aol.com format, although some @ygm.com, @games.com and @love.com domains are still supported. Users are also able to link their account with an account from another email provider.

AOL.com Mail Sign Up.

The AOL email sign up process is fast, easy to understand and can be carried out by visiting the service’s main homepage ( mail.aol.com ) and clicking on the link labelled ‘Don’t Have An Account? Sign Up’. This will then take you to the main AOL email sign up form, where you can create your new AOL Mail account.

On this form, you will need to provide the following information:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Username
  • Password
  • Date of Birth
  • Gender
  • ZIP or Post Code
  • Security Question
  • Security Answer
  • Mobile Phone Number
  • Alternative Email Address

The username you choose will serve as the prefix before the @aol.com part of your new email address. This username must be at least three characters long and cannot contain any special characters, like %, &, * or $. If you select a username that is already in use, you will be asked to select a different one instead.

Your security question, security answer, mobile phone number and alternative email fields should all be filled in accurately, as these may be needed in the event that you forget your password, or get locked out of your account.

AOL.com Mail Login.

After you have created an account, the AOL email login form can also be found on the main homepage, underneath the ‘Sign In’ heading. In the first field, simply enter your username or email address and then click on the ‘Next’ button. On the next page, enter the password you chose during the sign up process and click ‘Sign In’.

It is important to note that your password needs to be an exact match with the password you entered on the sign up form and it is case sensitive, meaning the placement of upper and lower case letters is critical. For this reason, you should enter the password carefully and make sure CAPS LOCK is switched off on your keyboard.

The AOL Mail service comes with a built-in password recovery system for those who have forgotten their password. In the event that this happens to you, simply enter your email address on the AOL email login form as usual, click ‘Next’ and then instead of entering your password, click on the ‘Forgot Password?’ link instead. From there, enter the requested security information and follow the instructions to reset your password and regain account access.

AOL Mail Login Problems.

If you cannot sign in, then you should:

  • Check that your internet connection is working.
  • Try different username and password combinations. You could have forgotten a small detail.
  • Check that the AOL Mail server is UP by visiting: http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/mail.aol.com.html.
  • Try to access with another browser, for example Chrome, Mozilla or Internet Explorer.
  • Delete your browser’s data (cache and cookies), restart the browser and then try again.
  • Disable all browser plugins, add-ons, anti-virus and anti-malware programs, and ad-blocker programs that may block the log in process.
  • Try signing in from a different mobile device or laptop and see if that resolves the issue.

I have changed my credit cardand my AOL account cannot get monthly payments. I tried to fill out the AOL Care Portal and will not allow me to secure my new credit card number. I need to get a phone number to call in my update.

I cannot get to my email login page even though I have had this AOL email account for 20 plus years. What is wrong – what have you done with AOL mail that I should know about?
